Spectacled Cobra

                                                  Let Binocellate live for us

The “Khoia Gokhra” snake called “Binocellate/Spectacled Cobra” in English and “Naja naja” scientifically is one of the mostly known poisonous and deadliest snakes in Bangladesh. Color of it’s skin is brown to dark brown and it’s body is covered with smooth scales. There is a cachet like an human eye on the U shaped mark just back on the hood. They are usually 100 cm to 220 cm long. They are available all over Bangladesh. They are habitable with dry places and places having very little light. Usually they live nearby the dwelling house, old and abandoned buildings, farming lands, forests and hilly areas.

Body groans up in shock hearing the name of snake as if it is Binocellate. No matter how deadliest the Binocellate is or how we are afraid of it as well as any other snakes, this animal is extremely beneficial for our environment and nature. It likes to eat rats. But frogs, birds, eggs, lizards, and even snakes are also belonging in the food list of Binocellate. Their diet is beneficial for our agriculture and helps to keep balance to the nature. They play a vital role to keep balance in the ecosystems.

Though Binocellate is a poisonous snake, there is no logic behind killing them, because, if they are not attacked they are not intending to attack people and as they are very important member of the food chain as well as ecosystem. Snakes are very primitive creatures and they have very weaker memory strength. They cannot remember someone to bite by intrigue scheme. They only attack people is they are attacked. Since the destruction of the environment and because of the ignorance of people as they intent to kill snakes at once has become threats for the existence of all animals. If this trend continues, we will lose diversity in our lives.
